DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL PARKS & WILDLIFE CONSERVATION (DNPWC)

DNPWC under the Ministry of Forests & Soil Conservation is established to conserve rare and endangered wildlife, including floral and faunal diversity in 1980. Till date,  there are a total of 20 Protected Areas including 11 National Parks, 2 Wildlife Reserves, 6 Conservation Areas and 1 Hunting Reserve, which covers 23.29% of country’s land under different geography. It promotes integrated and long term conservation management by improving co-operation among Protected Areas and Buffer Zone communities.

DNPWC is also the focal point and Administrative Authority for Ramsar Convention.  Of Nepal’s ten Ramsar Sites, six sites are within protected areas where DNPWC has direct involvement.

CODFUND has been partnering with the department for the protection of wildlife and Ramsar Sites within the Protected Area system. A recent engagement with the department is Profiling of Rare and Endangered Animals and Problematic Animals of Nepal. CODEFUND further look forward to collaborate with the department for other major issues of wildlife conservation and so on.
