IUCN Nepal

Established in 1948, IUCN is a membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organizations. It provides public, private and non-governmental organizations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development and nature conservation to take place together.  IUCN is now the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of more than 1,300 Member organizations and some 16,000 experts. IUCN implements a large and diverse portfolio of conservation projects worldwide. Combining the latest science with the traditional knowledge of local communities, these projects work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being.

UCN has been working in Nepal since the1960s and with Nepal country office established in  1995. It has been instrumental in policy formulation and implementation such as the masterpiece National Conservation Strategy; National Biodiversity Strategy and so on in partnership with various government line agencies and non-government organizations.

CODEFUND has strong working relation with IUCN. Recently, IUCN Nepal has been assisting CODEFUND for implementation of wetlands and wildlife management. Recent engagement includes:

  • Preparation of Integrated Lake Basin Management Plan of Lake Cluster Pokhara Valley, 2016
  • Profiling of Rare & Endangered Animals and Problematic Animals of Nepal

CODEFUND anticipates for further consolidation of partnership programs and action with IUCN Nepal especially for the establishment of Wetlands Academy.
