Shailendra Pokharel

Mr. Pokharel is the principle convener and founder of CODEFUND, and also the executive chief. He as botanist joined Tribhuvan University in capacity of Lecturer in Botany in 1982. After advance study on Natural Resource Management, he extended his expertise from 2003 to 2007 as Sector Chief in Bung Sector (Solukhumbu) in Makalu Barun National Parks & Conservation Area Project jointly executed by the Mountain Institute and Department of National Parks & Wildlife Conservation. In 1997, he joined IUCN Nepal as consultant later as Senior Program Officer and Regional Chief in the eastern Nepal to convene landscape biodiversity projects like Community Conservation of Rhododendron in Tinjure Milke Jaljale Area and Critical Ecosystem of Ilam Siwalik.

He worked as Consultant Adviser for the Government of Nepal for the sustainability of lakes in 2007 and entered into governance strengthening initiative of International Lake Environment Committee Foundation (ILEC)/Japan. Now, he is strongly affiliated in the school of wetlands particularly the lake, and making national efforts to implement Integrated Lake Basin Mechanism (ILBM) in Nepal. He and his team are recently engaged to promote conservation development especially establishment of Wetlands Academy, the primary constituent of wetlands governance in Nepal.
